Barry Gibb was born.

Barry is given first guitar for Christmas and
shortly writes his first song "Turtle Dove".

1957
The brothers and 2 friends make first appearance
under the name of "The Rattlesnakes" at the Gaumont
Theatre in the Chorlton-Cum-Hardy district of Manchester.
On the way to the cinema the record was dropped and broken.
They decided to sing for real instead.

1958
Andrew Roy Gibb is born at Stretford Memorial Hospital in Manchester.

Having been in trouble with police on many occasions, it was jokingly
suggested that if they didn't want their  children in jail, the family
would be better off in Australia. They arrived in Australia on Barry's
12th birthday and settled in the Redcliffe district of Brisbane.

They make first radio broadcast on Talent Quest in Brisbane.
Other prorams included, Bill Gates Midday Platter Chatter.
Between Gates and speedway promoter Bill Goode and an
abundance of other B and G initials (Barry Gibb, Barbara Gibb,
Brother Gibb), the group was christened the B.G.'s

1960-1961
Moved to Sydney, home of all major record labels in Australia.

Brothers appeared in the "Jack and The Beanstalk" pantomime at
the Rialto Theater in Sydney making two performances a day throughout
the holiday period.

1962-1963
The sign a recording contract with Australia's biggest company,
 Festival Records.

In 1963, the young Bee Gees met another group of great harmonizing
siblings - The Mills Brothers. The Gibbs were introduced to their
music by their father who was a big fan and was as thrilled to meet them
as his sons. To this day the Mills Brothers are still cited as a major
influence by the Bee Gees.

The Bee Gees' first single—
"The Three Kisses of Love" b/w
"The Blue and the Grey"—"is released in Australia.

Australian pop star Col Joye releases the Barry Gibb composition
'(Underneath The) Starlight of Love', as a single.

1964-1965
August1964 saw the release of "Claustrophobia" but the charts shied
away from the Bee Gees despite national TV promotion or shows on "Thank Your
Lucky Stars".

Wayne Newton releases "They'll Never Know" on his album "Red Roses for a Blue Lady"
in the U.S. - this is the first Gibb composition to be issued outside of Australia.

"Wine and Women" - desperate to see some chart success the brothers enlist
the help of their fan club (which had about 3 members) to do a bit of chart rigging.
Having figured that they needed to sell a certain quantity of the record to enter the lower
reaches of the chart they pooled all their money and bought as many copies as they
could, ensuring that they entered the lowest reaches of the chart at #35. The record
eventually reached #19.

"Barry Gibb and The Bee Gees" - This album contained 14 songs, written by Barry
and sung and played by The Bee Gees. It collected many previously released
single A and B-sides, plus another 3 songs.

Barry receives Adelaide radio 5KA's "Top Talent Award" for the song
"I Was A Lover A Leader of Men".

 1966
Ahmet Ertegun signs the English group Cream.
Atlantic will become a major force in British rock, releasing albums
by such artists as the Bee Gees, Mott the Hoople, Yes, Genesis, Derek
and the Dominos, Emerson, Lake and Palmer and Led Zeppelin.

After a string of disastrous singles on the Festival subsidiary label
Leedon, there were passed onto Nat Kipner, owner of Spin Records,
another Festival subsidiary. He introduced them to Ossie Byrne who owned a small
recording studio in the back of a butcher shop in the Sydney suburbs
of Hurstville. Ossie gave the brothers all the studio time they needed to
develop their sound and became their producer, even traveling to Britian
with them to co-produce their "First" album in 1967.

'Spicks and Specks' their 13th single becomes The Bee Gees first #1 hit.

'Spicks and Specks - The Bee Gees' originally entitled Monday's Rain, this album was hastily
 renamed to cash in on the success of the recent single.

1967
At 6pm the "Fairsky" leaves Sydney bound for England. The Gibb family is aboard
on a working passage with the brothers providing entertainment for the passengers.
The ship arrives in Southhampton on Feb. 6th but the family settles in Hendon just outside
London. On Feb. 16th, Robert Stigwood contacts them by phone

The Bee Gees sign a 5 year contract with manager Robert Stigwood.

Australian, Colin Petersen, famous as the child star of the films 'Smiley',
 'The Scamp' and 'A Cry From The Streets' becomes the 4th member of the group.
Colin was an accomplished drummer and played
with the successful group Steve and the Board before moving to England.

In 1967 appearance on the British "Simon Dee Show" displayed some rather
poor dress sense. The Bee Gees called it "Our insane attempt
to create a trend in clothes. Instead we were knocked for looking
like baboons."

Another Australian, Vince Malouney is announced as an official member
of the group. Lead guitarist Vince had been in many groups in Australia
probably the best known and most successful being Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs.

'New York Mining Disaster 1941' is the first Bee Gees song recorded outside of
Australia. It fares well on both sides of the Atlantic, peaking at #14 in the U.S. and
#12 in Britain. In Germany it reaches #10.

'To Love Somebody' is The Bee Gees second Top 20 hit in the U.S., peaking
at #17. In Germany it reaches #19.

 1967
'Bee Gees 1st' - not really their first album, but it is their first in terms of
international releases. It contains classics such as 'New York Mining Disaster 1941';
'Holiday' and 'To Love Somebody'. It fares well on both sides of the Atlantic
in terms of chart success peaking at #7 in the U.S., and #8 in Britain and #4 in Germany.

The Home Office declares that Australian Colin Petersen and Vince Malouney must leave Britain
by Sept. 17th when their Visas expire. The pair consider applying for Spanish
nationality which would enable them to stay and work. The problem didn't affect
the brothers who were, of course, born in the British Isles.

'Massachusetts' is released as a single and its success is phenomenal! It gives
The Bee Gees their biggest hit to date. In the U.S. it reaches #11, but in Britain it is their first chart topper,
holding the #1 slot for four weeks. It also hits the top in Germany for three weeks and
Japan, six weeks. It also reached #1 in Malasia, South Africa, New Zealand, Singapore and Australia.

Atco records cashes in on The Bee Gees recent success by releasing
'Holiday' as a single in the U.S. It peaks at #16.

'Worlds' is The Bee Gees second top 10 success in Britain reaching #9. In Germany it is their second #1
and also takes them to the top of the charts in Holland and Switzerland.

1968
'Words' is released as a single and peaks at #15 in the U.S. It spends seven weeks
in the British Top 20 reaching #8. In Germany it is their third consecutive #1 and aagain puts them
in the top slot in Holland and Switzerland.

During a hectic trip to the U.S. The Bee Gees play their first concert at the Anaheim
Convention Center in California. They also appeared on "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In",
"The Smothers Brothers Show" where they performed their single "Words" on a fantastic
set of gothic architecture.

Horizontal is released as the second international album. European and American sleeves feature
different artwork. The album features tracks which to this day are the staples of any Bee Gees
concert - 'Massachusetts', 'World', and 'And The Sun Will Shine'. The album peaked at #12 in the U.S., #16 in Britain
and becomes their first #1 album in Germany where BeeGeemania is taking over from Beatlemania with
the group scooping the Bravo Golden Otto Award as the world's most popular group.

A U.K. tour begins which includes an extravaganza at the Royal Albert Hall with The Bee Gees
pulling out all the stops for a spectacular show which included them playing with a
full orchestra, choir and a Royal Air Force marching band.

'I've Gotta Get a Message' is released and gives them their second U.K. #1. It reaches
#8 in the U.S. giving them their first Top 10 hit there! In Germany the run of Top 10 hits is
extended to 5 with Message' reaching #3.

The Idea album is released, again with different sleeves. It peaks at #17 in the U.S. and #4 in Britain.

'I Started A Joke' is released as a single in the U.S. and is their most successful
release to date peaking at #6.

Guitarist Vince Melouney leaves The Bee Gees to concentrate on record production and
he forms the supergroup Ashton, Gardner and Dyke as part of his first project.


1969
The Bee Gees record a TV spectacular with Tom Jones over a period of three
days. Tensions ran high between Barry and Robin as the preferred choice of singles
"First of May" is performed in favor of Robin's "Lamplight"

'First of May' is released as the only single from the forthcoming Odessa double album.
The single reaches #37 in the U.S. but maintains steady Top 10 performances in Britain (#6) and Germany (#3).

Odessa double album is released and becomes a worldwide hit. It contains The Bee Gees
classics 'Odessa', 'Marley Purt Drive', 'Melody Fair' (which becomes a huge hit in the Far East
due to the success of the 1971 film 'Melody'), and 'Lamplight'. It was packaged in a velvet sleeve
that released so much dust in the air that the factory had to close temporarily and the final
package was done in red cardboard.

Robin leaves The Bee Gees to pursue a solo career

5/17/1969
The British television broadcast "Bee Gees In Concert", sister Lesley
replaces Robin for just one performance.

Barry, Maurice and Colin release 'Tomorrow Tomorrow' as a single.

The first compilation of hits is released as Best of Bee Gees and it contains 10 of their
biggest successes plus 2 popular album tracks 'I Can't See Nobody' and 'Every Christian
Lion Hearted Man Will Show You'

'Saved By The Bell' is Robin's first solo single and it is a runaway success in Britain and
Germany peaking at #2 and #5.

Colin Petersen's last performance with The Bee Gees is during the filming of the
'Cucumber Castle' TV special.

Barry and Maurice go it alone and release 'Don't Forget To Remember' as a single. It
races up the British charts and equals Robin's recent success peaking at #2 and #9 in Germany.

The remaining Bee Gees began filming "Cucumber Castle" with guest stars, Lulu, Frankie Howerd,
Vincent Price, Spike Milligan and others. The film takes place in the 36 acre grounds of
Robert Stigwoods house in Stanmore.

Barry concentrates on a solo career, writing and producing for other artists. Maurice appears
on the London Stage in a musical 'Sing A Rude Song'.

1970
Robin releases his first solo album "Robin's Reing" which in addition to 'Saved By
The Bell' contains another 2 singles which both achieved Top 20 status in Germany.
'One Million Years' (#14) and 'August October' (#12).

June 1970
Barry, Robin and Maurice begin recording together again in
sessions which will produce the "2 Years On' album

Only one single is taken from the '2 Years On' album, 'Lonely Days' which reaches #1 in the U.S.
 

 1971
Drummer, Geoff Bridgeford, officially becomes a Bee Gees. He was a
member of the group Tin Tin who Maurice produced, and they also
toured as the support act for The Bee Gees. Co-incidentally, he took over
from Colin Petersen in Steve and the Board when he left to join The Bee Gees.

"How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" reaches #1 in U.S., Canada and Singapore.

The 'Trafalgar' album is released.

1972
Molly and Robin welcome their first child, Spencer

The classic single 'Run To Me' reached #9 in the U.K., #16 in the U.S. and #1 in Hong Kong
and Singapore

'To Whom It May Concern' album is released. The Bee Gees continue to tour the globe.

Despite lack of commercial success in the charts during this period, the brothers
were still very popular on the various concert circuits and as guests on TV shows.

1973
The 'Life IN a Tin Can' album is released in the U.S. well in advance of it's first March
U.K. release. The extracted single 'Saw A New Morning' is the first release on Robert Stigwood's
newly formed RSO record label. The single reaches #1 in the Hong Kong as does it's follow up
'Wouldn't I be Someone'.

Always popular as guests on the much missed "Midnight Special", The Bee Gees always fully
entered into the spirit of things on this show with their off-beat introductions and skits. The turned
in some memorable live performances of their own material over the years but the fun really started when they get
together with other artists. They sang a soul version of "Hey Jude" with Wilson Pickett and showed that they could
really rock when they linked up with Jerry Lee Lewis for a version of "Money".

'Best of Bee Gees Vol 2' is half hit singles and half classic cuts.

Barry and Linda become parents for the first time when Stephen Thadeus Crompton Gibb
enters the world weighing in at 5lbs 8oz.

1974
Robin and Molly welcome their second child, Melissa

The Bee Gees experiment with new styles with veteran Atlantic Records producer, Arif Mardin, who is
brought in to work on Mr. Natural. Seen as a success in terms of achieving the set goals, it is the first step
in a radical shake-up of The Bee Gees sound which was to take to being the biggest band on the planet!


1975
'Jive Talkin' hits top 5 around the world.

The groundbreaking Main Course album is released to widespread critical acclaim. It propels
The Bee Gees  into the Top 20 album charts around the world.

'Nights On Broadway' is released as the second single from the Main Course album. It reaches #7 in the U.S.

Maurice marries Yvonne Spenceley at Haywards Heath Registry Office. Barry is the best man and
officiates on crutches with his leg in plaster after a fall on the front steps of his home.

'Fanny (Be Tender With My Love)' is released as a single and is the thirds Top 20 hit from the
Main Course album in the U.S., reaching #12.

1976
Arif Mardin could not be retained for production duties on the follow-up to 'Main Course',
but his words of encouragement persuaded the brothers to twiddle the knobs themselves
for 'Children of The World'.  Mardin's faith in them was proven when the first single from the album, 'You Should Be
Dancing' was issued as it stormed its way to the top of the U.S. charts. It fared well in Britain too making
#5 and #16 in Germany. New co-producers, Karl Richardson and Alby Galuten, join the brothers
and their long-time band members, Blue Weaver, Dennis Bryon and Alan Kendall, for this album.

'Children of The World' released.

Maurice and Yvonne's first child, Adam Andrew Gibb, is born at Penbury Hospital, Royal Tunbridge
Wells weighing in at 6lbs. 9oz.

'Love So Right' released and makes #3 on the U.S. chart.

Yvonne Elliman releases 'Love Me' a cover of a song from the Bee Gees 'Children of The World'
album - it's #14 in the U.S. and #6 in the U.K.

 1977
Barry and Linda welcome their second child, Ashley.

Recorded at L.A. Forum on the 1976 U.S. Tour, the 'Here At Last - Live' double album is
the product and shows the Bee Gees in fine form complete with their band and horn section. It peaks at
#8 in the U.S. but nobody was prepared for what was about to happen!

The 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack album is released and top charts globally
for many, many weeks. It becomes the biggest selling soundtrack ever with
sales to date in excess of 30 million.

Australian songstress Samantha Sang, a long time friend of the brothers, releases their song
'Emotion' which reaches #3 in the U.S. charts and #11 in Britain.

'Stayin' Alive' is the second Bee Gees single from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack
and it again tops the chart in the U.S.  In Britain it makes #4 and in Germany #2. The Bee Gees, are propelled
to unparalleled heights of success with top placings in Italy, Canada, Australia, Spain, Holland and Mexico

1978
Yvonne Elliman's cover of the Gibb composition 'If I Can't Have You' is taken from the Saturday Night Fever
soundtrack as a single and that too becomes a U.S. #1 and #4 in the U.K.

'Nightfever' is released as a single and becomes yet another worldwide #1.

Release of the film and soundtrack album for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - a huge
critical and commercial disaster. Thankfully, The Bee Gees are riding high on the success of Saturday
Night Fever and re-emerge unscathed.

The Gibbs dominated the 1978 Billboard Magazine awards with The Bee Gees scooping 6 awards:
Albums of the Year; Soundtrack Album of the Year; Group of the Year; Pop Singles Artist of the Year;
Pop Album Artist of the Year and Pop Album Group of the Year. Barry took honors together with
Karl Richardson and Alby Galuten as Producers of the year, and not forgetting Andy who by this time was firmly established
as a superstar in his own right, winning the Single of the Year award for "Shadow Dancing".

'Too Much Heaven' is released as a single as a flagship for the forthcoming Unicef Gala Concert,
"A Gif of Song". All proceeds from the song to this day are donated to the United Nation's Children's
Fund. Again it tops the chart worldwide.


 1979
The Bee Gees and Robert Stigwood conceived the "Gift of Song" concept and organized
a concert to benefit children around the world. The Bee Gees top the bill at the resulting
special Unicef concert at the General Assembly Hall of the United Nation's Building New York.

The much anticipated follow-up album to Fever is released, 'Spirits Having Flown' doesn't disappoint,
topping charts all over the world and continuing The Bee Gees incredible popularity.

The second single from Spirits Having Flown is 'Tragedy' and it continues an unbroken run
of 5 consecutive chart toppers for The Bee Gees in the U.S.  Their 4th #1 in Britain.

The Bee Gees win four Grammy Awards, out of a possible 6 nominations, in Los Angeles.

Hollywood star unveiled in The Bee Gees honor.

A record set by the Beatles is equaled by The Bee Gees when 'Love You Inside Out'
reaches the top spot on the U.S. chart - their 6th consecutive single to do so. They are at this time, the
biggest act on the planet.

Bee Gees sell out five nights at Madison Square Garden on their 'Spirits Having Flown' tour and donate proceeds from one show to the
New York Police Athletics League which runs athletic and other programs serving inner-city youths.

1980
Maurice and Yvonne welcome their second child, Samantha.

The brothers decide to take time out to write for other artists. Barry and his production team produce
Barbra Streisand's Guilty album from which 'Woman In Love' is taken as a single. The albums and single
 were top of their respective charts in both Britain and U.S. at the same time.  A further single, the title track, is also released
as a single and is sung as a duet with Barry and reaches #3 in the U.S.

1981
Barry and Linda welcome their third son, Travis.

'Living Eyes' is released, it is chosen to be the first CD to be manufactured and is featured on the front cover of the
inaugural issue of the Compact Disc trade Magazine and British television program, 'Tomorrow's World'.

1982
Dionne Warwick benefits from an album full of brand new Gibb material written especially for her.
The album, Heartbreaker, delivers her biggest success in many years, and the title track single
makes #10 in Germany and the U.S. and #2 in Britain. The album was produced by Barry along with
Karl Richardson and Alby Galuten

1983
Robin and Dwina welcome their first child, Robin John.

The soundtrack album for 'Staying Alive' is the sequel to 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack album released.

Robin's second solo album, "How Old Are You' is released. It contains the huge European
summer hit 'Juliet'.

Kenny Rogers gets the Gibb treatment on his 'Eyes That See In The Dark' album. He is
joined on 'Island In The Stream' by Dolly Parton on what becomes RCA records biggest
selling single ever and the most played country song in history!  It reaches #1 in the U.S.

Robin goes high tech on 'Secret Agent', his third solo LP which contains the singles 'Boys (Do Fall
In Love'), 'Secret Agent' and 'Robot'.

1984
Barry and Linda welcome their fourth son, Michael.

'Now Voyager' is released as Barry's first solo LP, it contains the calypso styled single 'Shine Shine'.  A video of the
album is also made and features British actor Sir Michael Hordern in a leading role. Filming was done at
a swimming pool not far from Barry's childhood haunts in Manchester.

Maurice releases his second single 'Hold Her In Your Hand'. It is taken from the soundtrack to the
movie 'A Breed Apart'.

Release of 'A Breed Apart' starring Rutger Hauer, Kathleen Turner Powers Boothe and Donald
Pleasance, for which Maurice wrote the soundtrack.

1985
Robin's third solo LP in three years, 'Walls Have Eyes' is released but not in the U.S.

1986
Bee Gees sign 3 year contract with Warner Brothers Records in U.S.

1987
First single released by The Bee Gees on their new label is 'You Win Again' and it takes them back
to the top of the U.K. charts. It's their 5th U.K. #1 and they are the first group to achieve #1's in the
separate decades. They also join a small group of artists who have had #1's on three different labels - Polydor,
RSO and Warner Brothers.

E.S.P. becomes The Bee Gees first non-Polydor/RSO studio album and due to the success of the single, "You
Win Again' in Europe, the album performs well peaking at #5 in Britain and #1 in Germany.

1988
Bee Gees are awarded a British Phonograph Industry Award for Best British Group, performing 'You Win Again' at the event.

Bee Gees perform at Royal Albert Hall for the Prince's Trust Fund. Prince Charles and Princess Diane
attended.

Bee Gees perform at Wembley Stadium along with other superstar artists to celebrate Nelson
Mandela's 70th birthday and appeal to South African government to free him from jail. Mandela
was released some time later.

The Bee Gees younger brother Andy dies in Oxford of myocarditis, a viral infection of the heart. His pop
career was hugely successful and he was the first solo artist to have his first three singles top the U.S.
charts. He sold over 20 million records in just over 10 years.

Barry's first film, written with friend David English receives its world premiere in London.

Hawks soundtrack is released.

1989
Warner Brothers issue the 'One' LP, but release in the U.S. is delayed until August when The Bee Gees are able to tour to
promote it. The European tour, their first concerts there for 15 years is an enormous success. The first
American concert tour for 10 years is also a big success.
They then proceeded to tour Australia and Japan, again getting their first shows in 15 years.

In the middle of the European leg of the 'One For All' tour German magazine "Hollywood" honors The Bee Gees
and gives them front page coverage too.

1990
Bee Gees and Elgon recorded "Up The Revolution" written by the
Bee Gees for Bunburys album 'Bunbury Tails' which was
released in '92.
Secret Love released. Bee Gees embark on European tour.

1991
Barry and Linda welcome their first girl, Alexandra.

Warner Bros. release their third and last Bee Gees
album, "High Civilization". It reached #2 in Germany.

1992-1993
The Bee Gees return to Polydor records, releasing 'Size
Isn't Everything' album. Their first single was
'Paying The Price of Love'

'For Whom the Bell Tolls' released as single. Reached
#4 in England

Bee Gees perform at the Royal Variety Command
performance in front of Queen Elizabeth at the
London Palladium

Having an extremely high profile in the music business
is extremely important - and Polydor get top marks
for this publicity stunt. The idea was put forward to place
huge plexiglass images of the brothers on the chimneys
of Battersea Power Station in London.

1994
Inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame in
Sheraton Hotel, New York

The "Size Isn't Everything" album is delayed until November
in the U.S. to allow time for promotional activities
to be co-ordinated. High profile events include
a one-off concert at Ruperts Nightclub in Atlanta, Ga.
and VH-1 "Centerstage" show

1995
Inducted into Florida's Artist Hall of Fame
in Tallahassee

1996
Bee Gees perform concert for victims of Hurricane Andrew
at the Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami

 1997
A new album by the Bee Gees, 'Still Waters', is released
as the group celebrates the 30th anniversary of its first hit.
They undertake an 18-month world tour.

The Bee Gees are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame at the twelfth annual induction dinner.
Brian Wilson is their presenter.

Induction into the Hall of Fame of the Australian Music Industry Association

Group received a BAMBI award in Cologne, Germany

Lifetime Achievement Award at the Goldene Europa Awards in Germany

Bee Gees medley of hits from their VH-1 "Story Tellers" performance is included in a compilation
album to benefit The City of Hope medical research center.

ONO concert on pay-for-view TV

1998
Bee Gees perform at the 'Saturday Night Fever' 20th Anniversary reunion concert
in New York.

Celine Dion releases 'Immortality' with the Bee Gees featured as backing tracks - The superstar
combination guarantees a Top 5 hit in Europe. Celine appears as The Bee Gees guest at their "ONO'
concert performing the song.

The album of Las Vegas concert of Nov 1997 is released and again goes Top 5 in Europe and is a
worldwide hit, ultimately selling more than 5 million copies. The release of the album
sees a further six 'ONO' concerts at huge stadium in Dublin, London, Buenos Aires, Pretoria, South Africa,
Auckland and Sydney

1999
The Isle of Man Post Office issues a set of Commemorative Bee Gees stamps with the Queen's
approval. A CD with a special recording of the Manx anthem 'Ellan Vannin' is available as
part of a special presentation pack - but is limited to only 10,000 copies. Proceeds from the
stamp sale are used to purchase a bus operated by the Lions Club for transportation of
handicapped children around the island.

2001
They released 'This Is Where I Came In'
Performed live in the Manhattan Center at the

2003
Our wonderful Maurice passed away
The Bee Gees end. Barry and Robin announce
they will not continue on with the name 'Bee Gees' out of
